The Maremma Regional Park (Parco dell'Uccellina)
The Maremma Natural Park, also known as the Uccellina Park, is a remarkable protected area of about 9,000 hectares stretching along the Tuscan coast between Principina a Mare and Talamone. It includes the municipalities of Grosseto, Magliano in Toscana, and Orbetello, and extends over 25 kilometers of coastline. Here, sandy beaches alternate with cliffs, wetlands, pine forests, cultivated fields, and open pastures, creating a diverse and ever-changing landscape.
This natural oasis is home to an extraordinary variety of environments, from Mediterranean scrubland to ancient pinewoods, from rolling hills to dunes and unspoiled shores. The park is rich in biodiversity, with aromatic herbs, colorful berries, and birdsong filling the air, offering visitors an authentic immersion in nature.
Exploring the park is both an adventurous and rewarding experience. The Uccellina Mountains, a chain of green hills culminating at 471 meters with Poggio Lecci, provide sweeping views over the coastline and inland countryside. The pine forest of Marina di Alberese offers shaded paths and pristine scenery. In the heart of the park lie the mouth of the Ombrone River and the Trappola Marshes, habitats where Maremma cattle and horses still roam freely—an iconic image of the region.
Visitors can discover the park through a variety of activities:
- Trekking and Nordic Walking: A well-marked network of trails suitable for all levels allows for close contact with the park’s flora and fauna.
- Cycling: Exploring by bike makes it possible to reach more remote areas and enjoy panoramic routes.
